First: Stay Safe

Do not get on your roof after a storm. Wet surfaces, hidden structural damage, and downed power lines are all real dangers. Assess from the ground using binoculars if needed.

Document Before Anything Else

Walk around the perimeter of your home and photograph everything you can see — missing tiles, damaged gutters, debris, and any interior ceilings showing water stains.

Temporary Protection

If water is actively entering your home, a blue tarp over the damaged area can prevent additional interior damage. Keep receipts for any emergency materials — these expenses are often reimbursable.

Storm damage isn't always visible from the ground. A licensed roofer can identify all damage and provide the documentation your insurance company requires.
